Gala Health
Grade BA GLP-1 program built explicitly for women — its product pages say so, and it sells HRT and menopause care beside the weight-loss line, which is a genuine draw if you are managing metabolism and hormones together. The $179 entry is real, but it is a yearly-subscription rate; no month-to-month price is published.
Visit Gala HealthWhat's the difference between Foundayo and the Wegovy pill?
Both are daily GLP-1 pills, but they fit a woman's routine differently. Foundayo can be taken any time, with or without food, yet its label asks pill users to change or add birth control for 30 days after starting and after each dose increase. The Wegovy pill needs an empty stomach and a 30-minute wait, which complicates thyroid medicine.
The Wegovy pill is oral semaglutide, the same medicine as the Wegovy and Ozempic injections, in a tablet. The FDA approved it for weight management in December 20251. Foundayo is orforglipron, a new small-molecule medicine from Eli Lilly that acts on the same GLP-1 receptor. The FDA approved it on April 1, 20262. Both are for adults with obesity, or with overweight and at least one weight-related health condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.

How do you take each pill?
Foundayo. One tablet a day, swallowed whole, at any time of day, with or without food3. You start at 0.8 mg and move up after at least 30 days on each step: 2.5 mg, then 5.5 mg. Your clinician can then raise it to 9, 14.5 or 17.2 mg, again at least 30 days apart, depending on how well it works and how you tolerate it. If you miss seven or more days in a row, you restart at a lower dose.
Wegovy pill. One tablet each morning on an empty stomach, with no more than 4 ounces of plain water. Then you wait at least 30 minutes before you eat, drink anything else or take other pills4. You start at 1.5 mg for 30 days, then 4 mg, then 9 mg, reaching the 25 mg maintenance dose from day 91.
The practical difference is bigger than it sounds. If your mornings involve a child, a commute or a coffee you are not willing to delay, the Wegovy pill asks for a small daily ritual. Foundayo does not.
Which pill leads to more weight loss?
The two have never been tested against each other, so any comparison crosses trials with different people and lengths. With that caution:
Wegovy pill. In the OASIS 4 trial, adults without diabetes who took 25 mg daily lost an average of 13.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks, against 2.2% on placebo5. Nearly half of those on the pill lost 15% or more, according to the label4. About four in five participants were women.
Foundayo. In the ATTAIN-1 trial, adults without diabetes lost 11.2% at the highest dose over 72 weeks, against 2.1% on placebo6. The trial used an earlier formulation; the label shows the same results as Foundayo's equivalent doses, 5.5, 9 and 17.2 mg, with losses of 7.4%, 8.3% and 11.1%3. Close to two thirds of participants were women.
So on the numbers, the Wegovy pill's average loss is a few points higher. But the trials are not directly comparable, and the medicine you can take consistently is the one that works. Our semaglutide vs tirzepatide guide explains how the injectable options compare.
Do they affect birth control?
This is the clearest difference for women, and the one most likely to be missed.
Foundayo. Like other GLP-1 medicines, Foundayo slows how fast the stomach empties, which can change how well other pills are absorbed. Its label says, in full3:
"Advise patients using oral hormonal contraceptives to switch to a non-oral contraceptive method or add a barrier method of contraception for 30 days after initiation with FOUNDAYO and for 30 days after each dose escalation. Hormonal contraceptives that are not administered orally should not be affected."
The label also notes that Foundayo's effect on the pill has not been tested in a clinical trial. Because the dose can rise up to five times, that is up to six separate 30-day windows across a year of treatment. In practice, many women find it simpler to switch to a method that does not go through the stomach: a hormonal or copper IUD, the implant, the shot, the patch or the ring. Others keep the pill and use condoms during each window.
Wegovy pill. The Wegovy label carries no contraception warning. Semaglutide was studied with a combined pill and did not meaningfully reduce its absorption7.
Our guide to GLP-1 medication and birth control covers the tirzepatide rule, which is similar to Foundayo's but runs for 4 weeks.
Can you take them with levothyroxine?
Thyroid disease is common in women, and many take levothyroxine every morning. That makes timing matter.
Wegovy pill. Its label reports that in a drug interaction study with the semaglutide tablet, "levothyroxine exposure was increased 33%", and it advises monitoring the effects of oral medicines taken alongside it, especially those that need close monitoring4. Levothyroxine is one of those: its own label says to take it on an empty stomach, half an hour to an hour before breakfast8. With both pills wanting an empty stomach first thing, you and your clinician will need a plan for the order and timing, and probably a thyroid blood test a few weeks after you start.
Foundayo. Its label has no levothyroxine study. It does carry the general caution that slowed stomach emptying may affect the absorption of other oral medicines3. Because Foundayo has no food or timing rule of its own, it is easier to keep away from your thyroid tablet. A thyroid check after starting or changing the dose is still sensible.
Both labels carry a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents and are not used by anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2. Ordinary hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's are not on that list. Our guide to GLP-1 medication and thyroid conditions goes further.
What side effects should you expect?
Stomach and bowel symptoms dominate both, mostly while the dose is rising.
| Side effect | Foundayo 17.2 mg | Placebo |
|---|---|---|
| Nausea | 35% | 10% |
| Diarrhea | 25% | 11% |
| Constipation | 24% | 9% |
| Vomiting | 24% | 4% |
| Stopped because of side effects | 10% | 3% |
These figures come from Foundayo's pooled weight-loss trials3. For the Wegovy pill, gastrointestinal side effects of any kind affected 74.0% of people on the pill and 42.2% on placebo in OASIS 45, and 6.9% stopped because of side effects, against 5.9% on placebo4. Its label says the common side effects were similar to those of the injection.
Two women-specific points stand out. Hair loss was more common in women on Foundayo, 7% against 3% of women on placebo, and was linked to weight reduction3. The Wegovy injection trials showed the same pattern, at 4% of women against 2% on placebo4. Our guide to GLP-1 hair loss in women explains why it happens and what helps. The Wegovy pill trial also reported unusual skin sensations (dysesthesia) in 5% of people on the pill and none on placebo4.
What if you are planning a pregnancy?
Neither pill is used in pregnancy. Weight loss offers no benefit during pregnancy and may harm the baby, so both labels say to stop when pregnancy is recognized34.
The timing before a planned pregnancy differs. Semaglutide stays in the body for weeks, so the Wegovy label advises stopping at least 2 months before you plan to conceive4. Foundayo leaves the body much faster, with a half-life of roughly 29 to 49 hours3, and its label gives no fixed washout period. Both labels advise effective contraception during treatment.
Weight loss on a GLP-1 can also make ovulation more regular, particularly with PCOS, so pregnancy can come sooner than expected. If you are trying to conceive with help, our guide to GLP-1 medication before IVF covers the timing.
Can you take either while breastfeeding?
The labels advise against both. The Wegovy pill contains an absorption enhancer, salcaprozate sodium (SNAC), that passes into breast milk, and because infants may clear it more slowly, the label says breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with the tablets4. Foundayo was found in the milk of lactating rats, and its label says it "is not recommended for nursing women"3. Our guide to GLP-1 medication and breastfeeding covers the options after birth.
What do they cost?
At self-pay prices read in October 2026, both pills cost the same at most doses.
| Dose step | Foundayo (LillyDirect) | Wegovy pill (NovoCare Pharmacy) |
|---|---|---|
| Starting dose | $149 (0.8 mg) | $149 (1.5 mg) |
| Second step | $149 (2.5 mg) | $199 (4 mg) |
| Third step | $199 (5.5 mg) | $299 (9 mg) |
| Higher doses | $299 (9 to 17.2 mg) | $299 (25 mg) |
Foundayo's 2.5 mg and 5.5 mg prices are temporary reductions through December 31, 2026, and its top-dose price depends on refilling within 45 days. Both are also listed on the federal TrumpRx site at the same prices. Eligible Medicare patients can get either for $50 a month through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge. Our guide to TrumpRx, LillyDirect and NovoCare prices has the details.
Who prescribes them online?
Any licensed clinician can prescribe either pill. Among the programs we review, Alloy prescribes both the Wegovy and Foundayo pills and treats menopause in the same practice, Found lists Foundayo among its brand options, and Sesame Care publishes Wegovy pill prices. Fees on top of the medicine vary, so compare the total. For a wider view, see our GLP-1 board for women and our menopause board.
Which one fits your life?
Foundayo may suit you if your mornings are unpredictable, you take several other medicines first thing, or you already use a non-oral method of birth control. The Wegovy pill may suit you if you are on the pill and do not want to change methods, are comfortable with a fixed morning routine, and want the slightly larger average weight loss seen in its trial. If you take levothyroxine, either can work with a timing plan and a follow-up thyroid test. Bring this comparison to your clinician.

Frequently asked questions
Does Foundayo affect birth control pills?
It may. Foundayo's label says to advise patients using oral hormonal contraceptives to switch to a non-oral contraceptive method or add a barrier method of contraception for 30 days after starting Foundayo and for 30 days after each dose increase. Non-oral hormonal methods should not be affected.
Does the Wegovy pill affect birth control?
Its label has no contraception warning, and a study of semaglutide with a combined birth control pill found no meaningful drop in absorption. Effective contraception is still advised during treatment because the medicine is not used in pregnancy.
Can I take the Wegovy pill with levothyroxine?
Yes, with a plan. In a study with the semaglutide tablet, levothyroxine exposure rose 33%, and both pills are meant for an empty stomach in the morning. Agree on timing with your clinician and expect a thyroid blood test after starting.
Can Foundayo be taken with food?
Yes. Foundayo is taken once daily at any time, with or without food. The Wegovy pill must be taken on an empty stomach with up to 4 ounces of water, followed by a 30-minute wait.
Which pill causes more weight loss?
They have not been compared directly. In separate trials, the Wegovy pill at 25 mg produced an average loss of 13.6% over 64 weeks and Foundayo's top dose about 11% over 72 weeks.
Can I take Foundayo or the Wegovy pill while breastfeeding?
Neither is recommended. The Wegovy pill contains an absorption enhancer that passes into breast milk, and Foundayo's label says it is not recommended for nursing women.
How much do Foundayo and the Wegovy pill cost without insurance?
In October 2026 both start at $149 a month and reach $299 at higher doses, through LillyDirect for Foundayo and NovoCare Pharmacy for the Wegovy pill. Both are also listed on TrumpRx.
